Wyoming Wind River Expedition

Wyoming Wind River Expedition

Chase Golden and Cutthroat Trout in the Spectacular Wind River Range

The rugged Wind River Range spans more than a hundred miles in western Wyoming. Nearly all of the states 13,000 ft peaks are found here, it has 156 glaciers, contains well over 1,000 lakes, and is home to the headwaters of the Green, Big Sandy, Wind, and Sweetwater rivers. Needless to say, it is a fly fishing paradise. We will be heading off the beaten path into the south eastern Winds near Lander, WY. Using pack animals to lighten the load, we will hike far into mountains for six days in search of trophy sized fish, secret lakes, and the ever elusive Golden Trout. Once we are out of the backcountry, we will complete our service project before float fishing the nearby Wind/Bighorn River. This trip has it all: big mountains, big views, and big fish. Don’t miss out on this trip of a lifetime to one of the greatest fishing destinations in the world!

What to Bring

We have put together a list of all that you will need for a successful and comfortable expedition. We offer a rental program for most of the big ticket items like fly rods, reels, sleeping bags, etc..

My 15 yr old son just returned from a 10-day adventure in the Wind River range. He had a terrific experience - the first words out of his mouth when we spoke with him after re-entry were, "it was awesome!"

Will, Charlie P, and the rest of the Lillard team are exceptionally committed to what they're doing, and it's great to see first-hand the very positive impact these trips are having on kids. My son is already asking about a return next summer.

Lillard Fly Fishing Expeditions was started in 2010 as a graduate thesis for my Master's Degree in Environmental Conservation Education at NYU. The operating premise was simple - by coupling amazing wilderness fly fishing camps for teens with environmental education and service learning we can help inspire future generations of fly fishing conservationists. We have been growing our unique list of trips and experiences ever since.

When it comes to choosing a summer program for your teen the options are endless. For the teen who loves to fish, be outside, and has a strong sense of adventure we have made the choice easy. We are the leader in teen fly fishing adventures and are dedicated to providing the best backcountry fly fishing experience with opportunities for teens to engage in leadership training, community service, and backcountry camping.
