Berkshire to Beaches 22 Update IV

Final Trip update Berkshires to Beaches

Hello all,

The 2022 Berkshires to beaches just finished up an amazing few days camped on Cape Cod fishing the flats for striped bass! We arrived Friday afternoon after a drive in from the Berkshires. After our cook crew fixed us a meal, the kids got to tying their own flies around the campfire in preparation for the next few days.

The following morning we all slept in before making a gigantic pancake breakfast. Around noon, the tides on the flats had lined up for some good fishing, so we loaded up the vans and set off to meet our local fly fishing guides. We arrived at the spot, rigged up our rods with our freshly tied flies from the night before, and after a short walk out onto the flats we immediately began spotting fish. Unfortunately, high sun and clear water made triggering eats difficult. As the tide began to recede, the fish became more concentrated in specific holes which made targeting them easier. With the help of our guides, the kids hooked up on and landed some fish before the tide came back in and we were forced to head back to camp. The long day out in the water had the kids feeling pretty tired so we made dinner and s'mores then went to bead early to get ready to do it again the next day.

The following day went similarly; we slept in and had a relaxed morning around camp before heading out onto the flats to fish low tide. Once again, the fishing started off slow but picked up as the tide went out. By the end of day 2, a bunch more kids had hooked into their first striper on the fly! Tired and hungry, we cooked dinner in a local park before heading back out onto the beach to watch the sunset.

For our final day on Cape Cod, we packed up camp after a quick breakfast and hit the road. Before leaving the Cape we headed to the beach to conduct our beach cleanup service project, play a little beach football, and a sandcastle building competition before loading up the vans to move to our camp on the North Shore of Boston.

The kids are all super excited for tomorrow’s guided fishing charter for striped bass and our banquet dinner. Everyone has had such a fun time this past week and a half and we all are finding it hard to believe that it’s almost over! Parents will hear from us tomorrow to confirm travel details. All of us guides have really enjoyed being a part of this group and we hope to see all of these kids on more Lillard trips in the future!

Tight lines,

Will, Jack, and William

Lillard Fly Fishing Expeditions was started in 2010 as a graduate thesis for my Master's Degree in Environmental Conservation Education at NYU. The operating premise was simple - by coupling amazing wilderness fly fishing camps for teens with environmental education and service learning we can help inspire future generations of fly fishing conservationists. We have been growing our unique list of trips and experiences ever since.

When it comes to choosing a summer program for your teen the options are endless. For the teen who loves to fish, be outside, and has a strong sense of adventure we have made the choice easy. We are the leader in teen fly fishing adventures and are dedicated to providing the best backcountry fly fishing experience with opportunities for teens to engage in leadership training, community service, and backcountry camping.

Sincerely,
