Bob Marshall Girls Adventure - Update 1

Hi Families!

We can't report that travel went super smoothly, but we're all together now. Because of a cancelled flight, the group wasn't whole until today. NOW the trip has officially begun! Yesterday, we spent the day fishing in Valley Garden, where Madeline began to learn how to roll cast, read water, and identify the incredible variety of aquatic insects hiding beneath the surface. She showed a lot of focus and enthusiasm, and it was awesome to see her skills progress so quickly.

Today, we picked up Ness, Vera, and Cordy from the airport while Sloane, Chloe, and Madeline got back on the water for another fun session. This afternoon, we introduced everyone to the basics of fly casting, and it was a joy to watch the girls connect, laugh, and encourage one another as they learned something new.

Over the next couple of days, we’ll be fishing the Madison River. We’ll spend this time sharpening our casting techniques, learning more advanced knots, and dialing in our rigging before we head into the backcountry. It’s a great opportunity for the group to grow more confident on the water and come together as a team before we pack our backpacks and head into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. We'll spend Monday checking our gear, learning the best way to pack a bag, and making sure we have the food we need for four days in the backcountry. The excitement is building, and the adventure is just getting started!

Tonight, we’re heading out to a beautiful campsite along the river. The scenery is stunning, spirits are high, and we can’t wait for the next few days of fishing, exploration, and campfire fun. We’ll check back in soon with a bunch of fish pictures and more great stories from the river!

Warmly,
The LFFE Crew

Lillard Fly Fishing Expeditions was started in 2010 as a graduate thesis for my Master's Degree in Environmental Conservation Education at NYU. The operating premise was simple - by coupling amazing wilderness fly fishing camps for teens with environmental education and service learning we can help inspire future generations of fly fishing conservationists. We have been growing our unique list of trips and experiences ever since.

When it comes to choosing a summer program for your teen the options are endless. For the teen who loves to fish, be outside, and has a strong sense of adventure we have made the choice easy. We are the leader in teen fly fishing adventures and are dedicated to providing the best backcountry fly fishing experience with opportunities for teens to engage in leadership training, community service, and backcountry camping.

Sincerely,
