Maine to Mass Expedition - update 3

Hi all!

For the final section of the trip, the group has been fishing in the beautiful region of cape cod. We stayed in Nickerson State Park on the banks of the kettle ponds formed by glaciers millions of years ago when the cape was formed. Our main target fish here were the striped bass that live in the crystal clear water of the sand flats on the cape. The fish follow the tides and the window in which we can wade the flats is short; however when the fish were in they seemed to surround us.

After two days of successful flats fishing, a change in the weather caused us to miss the tide window, but we more than made due with a day full of water sports and other fun outdoor activities on the beaches of the kettle ponds. We didn’t let the weather rain on our our parade! Later in the day, the group enjoyed the new Spider-Man movie, a big crowd favorite.

Saying goodbye to the cape was difficult, but we had great plans ahead of us. The next day the group did some much needed laundry and made the drive across Massachusetts to the North shore into the town of Salem where the charter was located We made it to Winter island Park, our campground, and ate dinner under the pavilion overlooking the Salem Harbor. The guys seemed to enjoy the fact that they could hear the waves crashing as they fell asleep.

For the final day of fishing, the kids had an action packed day on the charter fishing for monster bluefish and stripers on the fly and on spinning gear. With most kids catching huge bluefish and stripers over 40+ inches, I guess you could say it was a success. To finish out the wonderful trip, we're headed out for our traditional final banquet dinner on the north shore at a local seafood shack on the bay.

Signing off,

Jack, Max, David and the gang.
