Hi Families!
We write you this final update with heavy hearts as the Mass Bass Adventure officially wraps up! This was such an awesome trip with a great group of kids, and we can’t thank y’all enough for sending your sons to spend the week with us. We hope they learned a few things and made memories they’ll never forget. We certainly did!
Since we last wrote you, we’ve been staying on the Cape at Nickerson State Park. When we arrived on the Cape after our drive from western Mass, the boys were hungry, tired, and excited for what was to come. We made a quick dinner of brats and beans, cleaned up, and hit the ice cream shop to fuel up for the days ahead. The guys enjoyed their cones and chatted about the potential for the fish of a lifetime in the morning.
While the weather was pretty rough, our mornings held up, with most of the rain coming overnight. We arrived on the flats to find them all to ourselves, with hundreds of fish patrolling the sand, happily munching on sand eels in the surf lines. The fish were picky, as usual, but the weather and pressure change had them in a good mood. We were able to stick and land a few awesome fish that day—solid slot-class stripers, thick and strong.
That afternoon we headed to the beach for a dip in the ocean, some good old body surfing, and a competitive beach football game that left a smile on every face. Back at camp, the guys cheffed up some fantastic chicken quesadillas while we hid from the thunderstorms overhead. The next day followed suit, with an epic morning bite and a number of great fish landed—again, most of impressive size. The sound of peeling drags kept spirits high as storms loomed offshore, and we made the most of every possible second.
That afternoon we headed to the Cape Cod National Seashore for our service project and cleaned up the beach. Afterward, we relaxed and returned to camp for dinner, s’mores, and a fun campfire story session where we shared laughs, experiences, and wisdom in the oldest way known to man—something we all cherish deeply.
The final day brought brutal weather that rendered the flats nearly unfishable, so we called an audible. After a good breakfast, some laundry, and camp cleanup, we headed into town for some fun. We played a few competitive rounds of laser tag and caught an afternoon showing of How to Train Your Dragon before finishing the trip with a delicious banquet dinner at Mac’s Seafood and one final ice cream run.
We wrapped the week with smiling faces and full bellies, relishing the friendships and memories made along the way.
Again, we can’t thank y’all enough for giving us the opportunity to work with, teach, and learn from your sons this past week. It is truly our greatest privilege.
Until next time,
The Dream Team – Sean, Gavin, and Leo,
