Greetings from Puerto Rico!
I hope this finds you all well! Everyone arrived at the airport without any issues, and we met our driver outside the terminal. We hung out at the airport for a while, grabbed some lunch, and waited for the rest of the crew to arrive. A few chicken tenders and a couple of hours later, all of our tripmates were together and ready to roll. After a comfy ride in a spacious Sprinter van, we pulled up to the one and only No Name Lodge. The excitement was palpable—everyone can’t wait to get on the water tomorrow and chase some fish. This trip is something we’ve all been looking forward to all summer long, and it’s finally here!
Saltwater fishing is never dull, and I have no doubt this week will be no exception. We’re lucky to have four incredible guides who will help us develop new skills, show us some amazing spots, and hopefully get us shots at some incredible fish throughout the week. Boquerón is already treating us well, and we’re excited to settle in for what promises to be an unforgettable adventure.
On the drive to the lodge, we got to see a big stretch of Puerto Rico. Everyone exchanged laughs, swapped stories, and started building new friendships while getting mentally prepared for the epic fishing days ahead. We arrived at No Name Lodge around 7 p.m., where we met some of our guides and the amazing staff who run this place. Talking with the guides about what’s in store for tomorrow got us even more fired up. Before turning in for the night, we filled up on pizza and went to bed dreaming of tarpon, bonefish, and whatever else the week might bring.
A little about me:
My name is Owen Reeve, and I’m a student at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, where I study history—especially the environmental history of the American West. I grew up in Maryland but got my first taste of western fly fishing on family trips to Utah, where my parents are from. I’ve been hooked ever since.
I love the outdoors and spend as much time as possible skiing, hunting, fly fishing, backpacking, and rafting. This is my seventh year with Lillard Fly Fishing, and I can honestly say there’s nothing better than spending time outside with a great group of campers. Outside of fishing, I play guitar and drums and enjoy music as much as I love the river. I’m a certified Wilderness First Responder and a licensed Montana guide, and I couldn’t be more excited to spend this next week exploring new water with this crew.
Saltwater fly fishing is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and everyone is eager to fish hard and get shots at some incredible species.
We can’t wait to check back in with more stories as the week goes on. The next few days are true bucket-list material, and we’re thrilled to share the highlights with you soon. Thanks for sending such stellar kids—their excitement for fishing is infectious, and we can’t wait to spend the week on the water with them!
Until next time,
Owen and the fellas
