Yellowstone Custom Trip Update 2

The Yellowstone Custom Adventure is off to a fantastic start! The last time you heard from us we had just finished packing up for our first backcountry. The following morning we got up early, packed up our camp, and hit the road. We arrived at the trailhead by 9am and got to hiking. The boys made quick work of it, and we made it to our first campsite with no breaks and an exciting bison sighting along the way.

After setting up camp and eating a quick lunch, the boys got to fishing and were immediately catching nice fish! After a solid afternoon of fishing with a number of nice fish caught, including a few elusive Arctic grayling, we headed back to camp for an early dinner so we would have time to fish the sunset bite. Our planning paid off. The fishing was fantastic that night, and a moose even showed up for part of it! We settled in for a good night of sleep after a long day of exciting hiking and fishing.

We got up early the next day and hit the trail right away to head to our next campsite. After another solid hike through some difficult terrain, we reached our new campsite. From the site, we could see fish rising all over the place, so the boys got to fishing right away. It took no time for them to start catching trophy cutthroat trout and the good fishing lasted nearly all day. By the end of the day, every one caught a nice fish over 16 inches! We settled in for dinner around the campfire and went to bed early.

This morning we woke up early and hiked out of the backcountry. We ate a quick lunch at the trailhead and steered the van towards the B4 Ranch. We arrived in the mid afternoon, and the kids got some fishing time in before a delicious dinner and some much needed showers. We will be enjoying the fishing and more showers tomorrow before we head into our next backcountry! You can expect to hear from us on Friday when we exit that backcountry. Until then...

Tight lines,

Will and Drew

Lillard Fly Fishing Expeditions was started in 2010 as a graduate thesis for my Master's Degree in Environmental Conservation Education at NYU. The operating premise was simple - by coupling amazing wilderness fly fishing camps for teens with environmental education and service learning we can help inspire future generations of fly fishing conservationists. We have been growing our unique list of trips and experiences ever since.

When it comes to choosing a summer program for your teen the options are endless. For the teen who loves to fish, be outside, and has a strong sense of adventure we have made the choice easy. We are the leader in teen fly fishing adventures and are dedicated to providing the best backcountry fly fishing experience with opportunities for teens to engage in leadership training, community service, and backcountry camping.

Sincerely,
