Colorado Adventure I - update 3

Hi families,

The ending to the Colorado Adventure I has been very exciting! We have finally made it to Silverthorne and have caught tons of fish since leaving Denver. Today, the kids put their fishing skills to the test on their float; many kids landed both browns and rainbows on the Colorado River.

Looking back a few days, after exiting the backcountry, we fished the tailwater section of the Colorado River near Granby, CO. We decided to fish a tailwater since the water has been quite high during this trip, and our best chance for success is finding water coming out of a dam. It was a great choice - most kids caught nice rainbows, cutbows, and browns.

After fishing the tailwater, we went back to our campsite where we quickly changed into our bathing suits. This campground (River Run RV Resort) has a heated pool and hot tubs, which we enjoyed as the cold, cloudy weather rolled in. The kids had a blast, a well-deserved, relaxing break from fishing. After drying off, we feasted on burritos, followed by s’mores to get ready for the float.

For the float day, half of the group floated from Rancho del Rio to State Bridge on the Colorado. The rest of the group floated from State Bridge to Twin Bridges, which is just a little bit lower down. Both of the groups did great, we netted lots of fish including some large Browns and Rainbows. After getting boats loaded up, we headed to Silverthorne for our Banquet dinner.

For the Banquet Dinner we went to The Bakers’ Brewery in Silverthorne; we ate a huge meal and shared stories from the trip. Tomorrow (Sunday) is the airport day and we will be waking up early to make it from Silverthorne to DIA. The trip has been an absolute blast, and the kids were great. They hiked further and steeper than any other Colorado Adventure in the past, and I couldn’t be prouder of how they handled it. We'll miss this group, but be excited to see them back next summer.

Best,

Jack, Remi, Zach, & the guys
