Hello there!
The first several days of our Rocky Mountain Expedition have been nothing short of incredible. The campers have already experienced amazing fishing, breathtaking scenery, challenging hikes, and unforgettable moments that will stay with them for years to come.
Our adventure began at Lake Granby, where everyone settled into camp before heading over to Willow Creek for an evening of fishing. It was the perfect way to kick off the trip, giving everyone a chance to get comfortable with their gear and knock the rust off after a travel day. The trout were cooperative, and the group managed to put several beautiful fish in the net, giving everyone an exciting start to the expedition.
The following morning, we packed our backpacks and began our trek into Rocky Mountain National Park from the Bear Lake Trailhead. The hike to Fern Lake was long and demanding, but every mile was rewarded with incredible mountain views, waterfalls, and alpine scenery. After setting up camp, we spent the evening exploring the lake and fishing until sunset, soaking in our first night deep in the Colorado backcountry.
The next day was spent entirely at Fern Lake, where the campers enjoyed a full day of fishing and exploring. The wildlife sightings were just as memorable as the fishing, with multiple moose and elk making appearances throughout the day. The trout kept us busy, and plenty of fish were brought to the net. During the warmer part of the afternoon, the campers got creative by using their sleeping pads as makeshift rafts, floating around the lake and enjoying some well-earned relaxation between fishing sessions. It quickly became one of the highlights of the trip.
From Fern Lake, we continued on to Loomis Lake, tackling a difficult off-trail hike through rugged terrain. Although it was one of the toughest physical challenges of the expedition so far, the reward was well worth the effort. The scenery was absolutely spectacular, and the remote lake held even better fishing. Spending time in such an untouched place reminded everyone why these backcountry adventures are so special.
Today, we packed up camp and made the hike out of the backcountry. After several days on the trail, everyone was more than ready for hot showers and clean clothes, so we stopped at the Estes Park Recreation Center to shower and do laundry before getting ready for the next leg of our adventure.
We couldn't be more proud of this group. They have embraced every challenge with positive attitudes, worked together throughout the trip, and made the most of every opportunity, whether hiking, fishing, spotting wildlife, or simply enjoying time in the mountains. We are excited to see what the rest of the expedition has in store!
