Hey families!
We’re glad to report that the fishing and vibes have been great so far. We’ve spent the last three nights camping at Ruby Creek Campground, located right on the banks of the Madison River. We decided to spend the first several days of the trip floating various sections of the Madison in hopes of timing the salmonfly hatch just right. And while the fish haven’t been ravenously feeding on big bugs as much as we hoped, the boys have landed some great fish regardless!
After these long days on the water, we’ve retreated to our scenic campground to hang around the fire, share stories from the day, and whip up some camp meals before getting some much-needed rest.
Today, we hit up the world-famous Madison River one last time on the boats before we switch over to walk-wading for the rest of the trip. The guys had a great final day on this river—a perfect way to close this chapter of the road trip! After getting off the water this evening, we finally got our long-awaited game of ultimate frisbee in. If we could tell you which team won, we would—but it was never quite clear who was on offense or defense. All we know is that it was a really good time. After the game, we headed back to base camp for chicken quesadillas and more fireside chats.
Over the next couple of days, we’ll be looking to the Ruby River, Boulder Creek, and a couple of other spots to continue our pursuit of large trout. While the boys have been out on the water, our base camp crew has been scouting these waters to figure out which ones are fishing best. With lots of fishing goals accomplished and several personal bests caught day after day, we feel confident the best is yet to come!
Until next time,
The Road Trip Crew
