Hello again from Yellowstone!
We've been having an amazing week filled with great fishing and even better views. After spending two nights at Bridge Bay Campground and fishing the Soda Butte Creek, we headed out for our final backcountry adventure of the trip at the legendary Slough Creek. It absolutely lived up to the hype! Not only were plenty of fish caught, but the boys landed more than a dozen trout over 20 inches. We camped right in the middle of a beautiful valley and were treated to sunny weather both days.
While one group was exploring Slough Creek, the other stayed at Mammoth Campground and spent time fishing the Gibbon River. On their second day, a salmonfly hatch created fantastic dry-fly fishing and an action-packed evening on the water. Back at camp, the boys enjoyed delicious hamburgers while swapping flies and sharing fishing stories around the campground.
Today, the final group hiked out of Slough Creek, and we all made our way to Crazy Creek Campground for the night. The car rides have turned into bustling fly-trading sessions, which has been a lot of fun to watch. This afternoon's plan is to fish the Lamar River before heading back to Crazy Creek for a hearty pasta dinner and, hopefully, some marshmallows around the campfire.
Tomorrow, we'll head back into Montana to fish the world-famous Madison River in search of beautiful rainbow and brown trout. Afterward, the boys will embark on their final big adventure: an overnight float trip on the Madison with a crew of expert guides. They can look forward to world-class fishing, plenty of laughs, and an unforgettable experience on the water. Rain is in the forecast, so everyone will have a chance to put their rain gear to the test!
Before heading home, the boys will spend one last night back at base camp, where they can enjoy hot showers and some friendly competition playing ping pong and ultimate frisbee. They'll also be treated to a delicious steak dinner with Will (Lillard) and get one more chance to take in a beautiful Montana sunset before wrapping up an incredible week.
We're looking forward to making the most of these final days and finishing the trip strong!
