Howdy from the Yellowstone Adventure 2 crew!
We just completed our Slough backcountry and had an incredible time! After splitting the group in half, we sent one group to the backcountry first, while the other stayed in the front country to fish around the Lamar Valley. Both groups had a great time and found some amazing native Yellowstone Cutthroat. Living up to its reputation, Slough presented some true trophy fish and many were landed. Meanwhile, the other half had a blast sight fishing for equally large fish in Trout Lake! After switching locations, the new backcountry group found equal success at Slough, while the front country crew found fish gorging on stoneflies in the canyon section of the Lamar River, which led to lots of dry fly action and big fish in heavy current!
Today we will spend the day at a more relaxed pace fishing around the Lamar Valley to conclude our time in the park. We anticipate fish looking for big dry flies, rewarding a well-placed cast. We will then spend our final night at the Crazy Creek front country site, where we plan on having a feast of pasta and potentially some tasty desserts. The group has definitely made lifelong memories and grown to have a special fondness for Yellowstone, its fishing, and its scenery, which will make tomorrow's goodbye a difficult one. However, it will leave a long-lasting desire to return — and plenty to say about the incredible place they called home for a couple of weeks.
The next few days mark the winding down of a truly special trip. Tomorrow, we will drive to Paradise Valley closer to basecamp at Ennis where we will prepare for our overnight float trip. The overnight float trip will present the perfect opportunity for campers to display everything they have learned throughout the trip. They will also get to enjoy Pat Sheehy's legendary riverside Blackstone pizza, something that has been raved about all summer. The float should be packed with lots of trout of multiple species — it is a very real possibility to see some grand slams!
Our final day will offer a half-day float with a wrap-up banquet dinner of steak cooked by Will Lillard himself! This should be a great time for everyone to recount their favorite stories and relive the trip over a great dinner and ensuing pool and ping-pong games! Finally, we will enjoy our last night at basecamp followed by airport drop-off, where we will send your camper home with many stories to tell and memories to share!
